Famous director, Yasmin Ahmad has been admitted to Damansara Specialist Hospital (DSH), Petaling Jaya as a result of stroke. At an emergency press conference at about 7pm at hospital, Yasmin’s brother-in-law Datuk Dr Zakaria Zahari, a surgeon, said that Yasmin was in stable but critical condition. Yasmin now is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DSH. Stroke is nothing new to Yasmin who previously suffered a stroke about five years ago. Her husband Tan Yew Leong, who was in the Intensive Care Unit ward with her, did not speak at the conference. Yasmin’s family has appointed Tan Kien Eng, the Managing Director of Leo Burnett as the spokeperson for the family. Yasmin’s skull was cut open to allow the doctor to clean up the splattered blood on her brain.
At press time, Yasmin’s parents were on the way from Langkawi to be at her side. Siti Nurhaliza was there and being a former ambassador for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, she administered CPR on Yasmin. Amongst Yasmin’s creative films are Sepet, Mualaf and Talentime. Yasmin fell to the ground while doing a pitch for a commercial to an audience at TV3.
