This lens will be an ongoing look at the major paradigm shifts that are occurring in consumer trends which will encompass the consumer web, mobile, retailing and consumer services. I will date each new entry about a paradigm shift as they are added so that you get a sense for when it was written.
"May you live in interesting times" is an ancient Chinese proverb, or curse, depending upon whom you ask. Well, we are living in them both on technological and societal terms. While our lives have changed dramatically in the last 20 years, as a result of computers, networking and the internet, I think we will see even more dramatic changes over the next 20 years.
I am an avid technologist and a voracious reader of web and internet news, financings, new technologies, etc. I plan to highlight the most significant game changers that I spot from a consumer standpoint. Not all of the paradigm shifts that I identify will be about web and mobile technologies, the majority of paradigm shifts will be about such technologies because that is where the most dramatic change is occurring for the consumer.
CAVEAT: This is by no means meant to be a comprehensive list of consumer trends for several reasons. First, I am going to highlight paradigm shifts that I see coming and I am quite fallible. I do not even pretend to think that I will see a majority of the shifts that occur. Second, I am NOT going to discuss shifts that have already occurred, are widely discussed or that we all see coming. And finally, I am going to stick to discussing paradigm shifts that I think are interesting. If they bore my simple little mind then I cannot imagine trying to come up with several paragraphs of text to describe them to anyone else.
